IF YOU REQUIRE A REPEAT PRESCRIPTION, PLEASE GIVE AT LEAST 24 HOURS NOTICE
Depending on when we have last seen your pet, if you contact us for a repeat prescription, you may be invited to come for a check up to enable us to review your pet's progress and to make sure any treatment continues to be appropriate and effective.
This is because, not only is it in the best interest of your pet, but legally we can only prescribe Prescription Only Medicines (POM's) to 'animals under our care'. This means that the animal must be registered with us and "must have been seen for the purposes of diagnosis". An animal cannot possibly be 'under our care' if we have never seen them. Also, by law, veterinary surgeons must examine the animals under their care on a regular basis.
The general policy of this practice is to re-assess an animal requiring a repeat prescription for supplies of relevant veterinary medicinal products every 6 months, but this may vary with individual cases and more frequent checks may be necessary. A charge is made for re-examinations.
Flea and worm treatments can however be dispensed without examination as part of a health plan agreed at the annual health assessment and vaccination.
You may obtain relevant veterinary medicinal products from us OR, for a small charge, ask for a written prescription and obtain these medicines from another veterinary surgeon or a pharmacy. Please bear in mind that a written prescription may not be appropriate if your pet is an in-patient or immediate treatment is necessary.
A dispensing fee may be added to the cost of each prescription drug dispensed and further information on the prices of medicines is available on request
